Umbreon is a Dark-type Pokemon introduced in Generation 2 in the Johto region. It evolves from Eevee when leveled up with high friendship during the night. Umbreon is one of eight Eeveelutions and one of the most defensively oriented. Known as the Moonlight Pokemon, its yellow rings glow in the moonlight, allowing it to intimidate opponents and communicate with other Umbreon.
Umbreon has a sleek, black feline body with luminous yellow rings on its forehead, ears, back, and tail. Its design is elegant and mysterious, reflecting its Dark typing. With 95/110/130 defensive stats, Umbreon is one of the bulkiest non-legendary Dark-types in the game. Its base 130 Special Defense is among the highest of all fully evolved Pokemon.
Umbreon's primary role is as a specially defensive cleric and Wish passer. Its massive 130 base Special Defense, combined with 95 HP and 110 Defense, gives it excellent all-around bulk. The standard set runs Wish, Protect, Foul Play, and Heal Bell or Toxic. Wish + Protect allows Umbreon to heal itself or its teammates reliably. Heal Bell cures status conditions for the entire party.
Foul Play is Umbreon's main damage source, using the opponent's Attack stat instead of its own. This means Umbreon punishes physical attackers that try to set up on it. A +6 Attack sweeper will take massive damage from Foul Play. Toxic lets Umbreon wear down opposing walls and sweepers alike. Synchronize punishes status-inducing moves by reflecting them back at the opponent.
Umbreon can also run a Calm Mind set, though it lacks offensive presence even after boosts. Its 65 base Attack and 60 base Special Attack are mediocre. The Calm Mind set uses Stored Power as its attack, which gains power based on stat boosts. With Calm Mind boosting both Special Attack and Special Defense, Umbreon becomes extremely bulky on the special side while slowly building Stored Power's base power.

Umbreon
Current form
Umbreon is a staple of UU and OU as a specially defensive pivot and cleric. Its ability to pass Wishes, cure status with Heal Bell, and check Ghost and Psychic-types makes it a valuable team supporter. In Generation 9, Umbreon is ranked in UU. Foul Play's reliance on the opponent's Attack means Umbreon needs teammates to handle specially offensive threats. Common checks include Taunt users that prevent Wish and Heal Bell, strong Fighting-types like Conkeldurr and Lucario, and setup sweepers that boost their Special Attack high enough to break through Umbreon's special bulk.
