Absol is a Dark-type Pokemon introduced in Generation 3 in the Hoenn region. Known as the Disaster Pokemon, Absol has the ability to sense impending disasters with its horn and appears before humans to warn them, though it is often wrongly blamed for causing the catastrophes it predicts. Despite its ominous reputation, Absol is a kind-hearted Pokemon that seeks to protect humans.
Absol is a quadrupedal, feline-like Pokemon with white fur, a dark blue mane, and a distinctive scythe-like horn on its head. Its design combines elegance with a threatening edge. Absol has 130 base Attack, placing it among the strongest physical Dark-types. In Generation 6, Absol received a Mega Evolution that turns it into a Dark-type with Magic Bounce ability.
Absol's primary set revolves around its Super Luck ability combined with a Scope Lens or Razor Claw and moves with high critical-hit ratios. Night Slash (STAB, high crit rate), Psycho Cut, and Stone Edge all have elevated crit rates. With Super Luck and Scope Lens, Absol reaches a 50% critical hit rate on these moves. A critical hit ignores the opponent's defensive stat boosts and stat drops on Absol's Attack.
Swords Dance Absol is another powerful set. After one Swords Dance, Absol's 130 base Attack doubles to effective 260. Sucker Punch provides Dark STAB priority, hitting Ghost and Psychic-types super effectively. Knock Off is a stronger Dark STAB that removes items. Play Rough, Iron Tail, and Psycho Cut cover Fighting, Fairy, and Poison-types respectively.
Mega Absol gains 115 base Attack, 115 base Speed, and the Magic Bounce ability, which reflects status moves, entry hazards, and stat-lowering effects. This makes Mega Absol a fantastic lead against hazard setters. The Mega form runs Swords Dance, Sucker Punch, Knock Off, and Play Rough or Stone Edge. Magic Bounce protects it from Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave that would cripple it.
Absol
Mysterious Pokemon
Absol sits in PU and NU in most generations, held back by its low bulk and Speed. However, its critical hit sets provide a unique niche. Mega Absol was more viable in UU during Generation 6 and 7 thanks to Magic Bounce. Absol's main drawbacks are its 65/60/60 bulk making it prone to being OHKOed, and its reliance on Sucker Punch for priority against faster threats. Common checks include physically defensive Fairy-types, faster Fighting-types with Mach Punch or Bullet Punch, and bulky Steel-types that resist Dark and can set up on Absol.
