Jigglypuff Overview

Jigglypuff is a Normal/Fairy-type Pokemon introduced in Generation 1 in the Kanto region. It evolves from Igglybuff when leveled up with high friendship, and evolves into Wigglytuff when exposed to a Moon Stone. Known as the Balloon Pokemon, Jigglypuff is famous for its singing ability that puts opponents to sleep.

Jigglypuff is a round, pink, balloon-like Pokemon with large blue eyes and a small tuft of hair on its head. It gained the Fairy typing in Generation 6, giving it a Dragon immunity and a resistance to Fighting moves. Jigglypuff's base 115 HP is remarkably high for a non-fully-evolved Pokemon, but its defenses are very low at 20 and 25.

Battle Strategy

Jigglypuff sees most of its competitive use in Little Cup or as a niche pick in lower tiers. Its massive 115 base HP gives it decent overall bulk when combined with Eviolite. The primary strategy is to use Sing to put an opponent to sleep, then set up with Reflect, Light Screen, or Calm Mind.

Wigglytuff, Jigglypuff's evolution, also struggles in competitive play due to its poor 45/20/25 bulk despite high HP. However, Competitive gives it a +2 Special Attack boost when an opponent tries to lower its stats, which can catch Intimidate users off guard. A Choice Specs set with Hyper Voice (Pixilate-boosted), Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and Flamethrower can surprise unprepared teams.

Jigglypuff can also serve as a budget redirector in doubles formats with Follow Me and Friend Guard (hidden ability), though Clefairy and Indeedee-F outclass it in this role. Its main draw is the novelty of using an unevolved Pokemon effectively rather than genuine competitive power.

Competitive Usage

Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff are low-tier competitive Pokemon. Wigglytuff is ranked in PU or lower in most generations, where its poor defensive stats and mediocre offensive presence limit its viability. Its niche is Competitive-boosted special attacking with Pixilate Hyper Voice. In VGC, Jigglypuff has seen very occasional use on gimmick teams using Copycat + Fake Tears strategies, but it is outclassed by almost every other Fairy-type in the format. The main competition is Clefable, which offers better bulk, better abilities, and superior movepool options.
