Chandelure Overview

Chandelure is a Ghost/Fire-type Pokemon introduced in Generation 5 in the Unova region. It evolves from Lampent when exposed to a Dusk Stone, which evolves from Litwick starting at level 41. Known as the Luring Pokemon, Chandelure is said to absorb the life force of anyone who stares too long at its flames. Its design is based on a chandelier, complete with candle-like arms.

Chandelure is an ornate, floating chandelier with purple candle flames at the tips of its arms. Its elegant yet eerie design reflects its Ghost-typing. Chandelure has an enormous 145 base Special Attack, one of the highest among non-legendary Ghost-types. Its Ghost/Fire typing gives it two immunities (Normal and Fighting), making it a great switch-in to Normal and Fighting-type moves.

Battle Strategy

Chandelure's primary role is a specially offensive wallbreaker. With 145 base Special Attack, its Fire Blast and Shadow Ball hit extremely hard. Overheat provides a nuke option with Special Attack drop. Energy Ball or Solar Beam cover Water, Ground, and Rock-types. Trick cripples specially defensive walls like Blissey and Chansey by giving them a Choice item.

Choice Specs Chandelure is one of the strongest special wallbreakers in the tier. Specs Shadow Ball is resisted only by Dark and Normal-types. Specs Fire Blast OHKOes most Steel-types. Flash Fire gives Chandelure a Fire immunity, allowing it to switch into predicted Fire moves and gain a Special Attack boost. In sun (via Torkoal or Ninetales support), Chandelure's Fire moves become even more devastating.

Chandelure can also function on Trick Room teams, where its 80 base Speed becomes an asset. Under Trick Room, it moves first and fires off powerful attacks. Substitute protects it from Sucker Punch and other priority moves. Calm Mind can boost its Special Attack further, though Chandelure's bulk (60/90/90) makes setup opportunities limited.

Competitive Usage

Chandelure is a strong UU and NU threat, valued for its immense Special Attack and useful immunities. In Generation 9, Chandelure is ranked in UU. Its main drawbacks are low HP (60), reliance on choice items, and competition from other Ghost and Fire-types. Common checks include specially defensive Dark-types like Tyranitar and Umbreon (immune to Shadow Ball, resist Fire), Water-types with pursuit or dark coverage, and faster Pokemon that can OHKO with Dark, Water, Rock, or Ghost moves. Chandelure's Infiltrator ability lets it bypass Substitute and Light Screen, making it a good stallbreaker.
